Tires, Wheels & Bearings
Pneumatic Tire - ANS-A tire that is filled with air
Tubeless Tire - ANS-A tire that does not have a separate inner tube
Inner Tube - ANS-A Thin, leakproof rubber liner found inside a tire
Tire Bead - ANS-A ring made of steel wire and encased in rubber. It holds the tire sidewall
snugly against the wheel rim.
Body Plies - ANS-Fabric and cords wrapped around the tire bead. It forms the carcass or body
of the tire.
Tread - ANS-Outer surface of the tire that contacts the road.
Sidewall - ANS-The outer part of the tire that extends from the bead to the tread. Information
about the tire can be found here.
Belts - ANS-Used to strengthen the body plies and stiffen the tread. It is found between the
tread and the plies.
Liner - ANS-Thin layer of rubber that bonds the inside plies of the tire. It provides the leakproof
membrane of a tubeless tire.
Rolling Resistance - ANS-A measurement of the amount of friction produced as the tire
operates on the road surface.
Bias Ply Tire - ANS-The plies run at an angle from bead to bead. The angle is reversed from ply
to ply.
Belted Bias Tire - ANS-A bias ply tire with belts added to increase tread stiffness.
Radial Ply Tire - ANS-Plies run straight across from bead to bead, with stabilizer belts directly
beneath the tread.
Tire Footprint - ANS-The shape and amount of tread touching the road surface.
Tire Markings - ANS-Found on the sidewall of the tire and gives information about tire size, tire
model, load-carrying ability, inflation pressure, number of plies, speed rating, manufacturer, ect.
