Salvation History --The Journey of Faith of Israel –Due: Feb 14, 2023
Introduction:
The following are the main ideas you are to understand from this unit.
Salvation history is the pattern of specific events in human history in which God
clearly reveals his presence and saving actions. In one sense we can say that all
human history is salvation history. By this we mean that the one true God—
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—has been present and active in the lives of his
People since the beginning of time.
Salvation history began with humanity’s first sin and ended in the Resurrection of
Jesus Christ.
Although human beings may have turned from their relationship with God during
salvation history, God always remains faithful to them.
Directions:
You are going to create a timeline for salvation history.
1. Read through “Sprint Through Salvation History”
2. You must include the 6 divisions below. Choose what you believe to be the most
significant events in each section—keep in mind we are making a timeline of
Salvation History (not history)
a. Patriarchs (and Matriarchs) 2004 BC - 1754 BC
1754 BC - 1504 BC Joseph in Egypt
b. Egypt and the Exodus 1504 BC - 1254 BC
c. Settling the Promised Land 1254 BC - 1004 BC
d. Kingdoms of Judah and Israel 1004 BC - 754 BC Division of Kingdoms
e. Exile and return 754 BC - 504 BC Assyrian and Babylonian Captivities,
504 BC -254 BC Esther
254 BC - 1 AD Ptolemies govern Jews, Rome governs Jews
f. Life of Jesus Christ 1 AD - 50AD
3. Illustrate each using pictures and/or words a minimum of 3 events for each
section and put them on the timeline. (NOTE: do not space as a timeline just put
in the correct order and note the dates)
4. Make a “textbox” to explain each event in 2-4 sentences.
5. Create a separate section for your journey of faith. Life is like a journey. We
must travel and grow as we move toward our ultimate destination. Salvation
history is the pattern of events in human history, in which God reveals his
presence. God is still present today, and reveals his ways to us as well. The
question is, are we in tune with our own connection with the God of our faith? Or
do we wander in a desert without purpose or focus? Identify events that you feel
have been especially significant in your life, these could include times of growth,
doubt, surprise, as you have learned about God, difficult times in life as well as
happy times. Pick out three decisive events, minimum, things that have
happened and made a big difference in your life: this could include moving,
changing schools, an accident, or illness, a great success, loss of a loved one….
Add them to your timeline. For each event label what it is, include either a picture
or written explanation of the event and explain where you are see God active in
that event.
You may work alone or with a partner. Each person will hand in their own timeline. Tell
me who your partner was. These may be physical copies or an online link. For online
sources please make sure a link can be shared and opened on the other end. Be
creative with the assignment.
