Part A

Question 1: Immigrant workers and workplace diversity. Similarities and differences

from other types of workplace diversity.

Workplace diversity occurs when people employed have elements and human traits

distinct from each other and belonging to different backgrounds. The different elements vary

from person to person and are mainly considered in revealing a person’s identity. A person

being an unauthorized immigrant indicates that he does not belong to the subject country and

he is therefore in violation of the migration laws. For such a person, the working status is

different and often, such people are from less developed countries. Unauthorized immigrants

have many elements that vary and distinguish them from other employees in the workplace

and should hence be regarded as a form of diversity in the workplace (Rawat & Basergekar,

2016)

Other types of workplace diversity depicted in the textbook include cultural, racial,

and ethnic diversity, age diversity, religious diversity, and lastly gender diversity.

Unauthorized immigration is seen to have some similarities in the forms of workplace

diversity (Morgan & Vardy, 2009). First, unauthorized immigration is similar to the other

types of diversities in that they all represent distinct human characteristics that define the

identities of various groups of people. For instance, unauthorized employees come from

different countries that have different cultures and religions. This is also similar where people

from a certain country but have different cultures and religions are expected to behave

differently according to their beliefs. Similarly, they determine their characteristics in the

labor force.

Secondly, unauthorized employees can highly benefit a business with their expertise

levels and skills in various fields, and this is also the case in other forms of diversities. They

enable employees from different races, cultures, and genders to interact in the workplace,

, explore and share new methods of handling things in the workplace. Nonetheless, some

factors create contradicting opinions between being an unauthorized immigrant and other

types of workplace diversity. First, all the other forms of diversity are legal and approved by

the law. On the contrary, unauthorized immigration is an illegal activity that leads to penalties

in case one is discovered by law. As seen in the case, research carried out on illegal

immigration indicated Chipotle Grill restaurant among other companies, having high

numbers of unauthorized employees. This was considered an illegal act as they had even

engaged in the preparation of fake paper works for the employees.

Thirdly, all the other diversities are naturally ethical and this differs from illegal

immigration. Unauthorized immigration depicts unethical dealings between the immigrants

and the employers (Taylor, 2008). The employees offer cheap labor and this favors the

employers since they can be able to pay less for the same services that the legal persons or

citizens could perform but at a higher rate. This is highly unethical since the unauthorized

employees illegally occupy the spaces at work that the legal persons should be occupying.

Making paperwork for unauthorized employees also highly portrays unethical behavior in

most of the employers.

Question 2: Impacts of hiring unauthorized employees on the stakeholders.

Employment of undocumented immigrants greatly reduces the wage rates and salaries

since as said earlier; the immigrants offer cheap labor to the employers (Presmanes

&Eisenberg, 2008). This reduction will lead to an increase in the company’s profits and in

return leads to maximization in the shareholders' wealth. The main people to benefit from this

will be the internal stakeholders such as investors who will have an increase in the returns to

their investments. Managers and board of directors are also expected to gain help in these

hiring decisions. When the company cuts some of its expenses by hiring unauthorized

employees, it will give them the ability to maintain its short-term and long-term debts, and
