AIM:
To prepare the benzanilide from aniline by benzoylation process.
PRINCIPLE:
The aniline is made to undergo the benzoylation by condensation with the benzoyl
chloride in the presence of an alkali.
CHEMICALS REQUIRED:
Aniline = 3.0 ml
10% NaOH = 40.0 ml
Benzoyl chloride = 5.0 ml
PROCEDURE:
Measure out exactly 3.0 ml of aniline into a clean iodine flask and add about 40 ml
of 10% NaOH solution into it. Mix, Well and add 5.0 ml of benzoyl chloride gradually
every 1ml at a time and shake well for about 20 – 30 minutes by opening the lid for every
5 minutes interval. The benzanilide is getting precipitated as granules.
Filter the granules, dry, weigh and then calculate the percentage yield is produced.
REPORT:
The theoritcal yield = -----g
The practical yield = -----g
The percentage yield=-----%
