• The term Immunity is derived from the Latin
word Immunitae, which referred to the
protection from the legal prosecution offered
to Roman Senators during their tenure in
office.
• In medicine it refers to the resistance
exhibited by the host towards injury caused by
microorganisms and their products.

1. Protection against infectious diseases
2. Eliminate potentially destructive foreign

– Thymus
– Bone marrow

– Lymph nodes
– Spleen
– MALT(mucosa associated lymphoid Tissue located
in the respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract)
– Skin Associated Lymphoid Tissue (SALT)
