Should business people have ethical codes, like many other professionals? Should
they have ethical oversight, like lawyers and doctors? Why or why not
I believe that businesspeople should have some set of ethical codes to enforce discipline
and some set of rules to abide by. However, I don't believe it should be as strict as the
code of ethics for lawyers and doctors. These types of professions deal with people's
livelihood and freedom.
America, being a country with a capitalism economy, allows individuals today to enter a
free market to trade and control a functional supply chain as private entity. Ethical codes
with greater restraints will minimize profits and require more innovation to keep
businesses afloat. I believe all businesses whether corporate level or small owned, have
all practiced something unethical which sometimes, wouldn't really hinder the business
or said practices go unnoticed.
