, Question 1
1.1 In your own words describe what the cause of the child’s condition might be and
what could be contributing to the condition.
The cause of the child’s condition might be malnutrition. Malnutrition occurs when
your body isn't getting enough nutrient(s). (WebMD, 2020) One of the causes of
malnutrition is under nutrition (when a person is not getting enough of certain
nutrients or when a person is getting too much of certain nutrient). A low income can
also contribute to the cause of malnutrition because there is not enough money to
buy proper food that can help maintain a balanced, nutritional diet. (Brazier, 2020)
Malnutrition and low income can also be the reason why the boy’s teeth are decayed
as he is not getting the proper vitamins and calcium to help his teeth grow and he
might also not be able to take care of them the way he has to. All of his symptoms
(being tired most of the time, often falling sick, etc.) are causes of malnutrition, his
body will be healthy and he will not be tired all of the time if he gets enough of the
correct types of food which also provides energy for the body.
1.2 Identify five types of food with examples that the child in the scenario will need in
order to grow and stay healthy.
Fruit e.g. apples, bananas, grapes, etc.
Vegetables e.g. broccoli, carrots, green beans, etc.
Protein e.g. meat, fish, eggs, etc.
Dairy e.g. milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.
Starchy foods/carbohydrates e.g. bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.
