Common causes of significant mortality and morbidity
• Blunt injury : less than 10% require major surgery
• Penetrating: 15-30% require major surgery
• Mostly are effectively managed by:
-appropriate airway and ventilation control -
-pleural decompression
(finger thoracostomy/intrapleural drain)
