Introduction:
When people work in a field as a professional who helps others, it is crucial that the
individual maintain a healthy balance between their work life and personal life. Using
assessment tools such as the Quality of Life Scale can be a great way for professionals to keep
track of their compassion, burnout, and any secondhand trauma they may be experiencing. There
are many different actions that should be taken for professionals to avoid burnout and secondary
trauma, while also ensuring the work they are doing is being effective for their clients.
Assessment Results:
I took the Quality of Life assessment and here were my results. In the Compassion section, I
received a score of 42. This score shows that I obtain a high level of compassion and empathy.
Which is essential when working in this field, however, it can also indicate that I may need
careful management to avoid compassion fatigue. For Burnout, my score was 20. This score
shows that I am experiencing a healthy level of stress, but it is crucial to use certain strategies to
ensure I maintain a healthy balance and not risk burnout. The last section of the assessment is
secondary trauma, in this section my score was 20 as well. This score shows that while I am not
currently overly affected by secondary trauma from my work, it is still important to use strategies
to ensure I remain in this safety area.
