One form of oppression is the number of kids in the system here in Arizona and all other
the world. In this paper I will talk about the families that are in the system and the kids who jump
from home to home. I will talk about why it is a big problem and ways we can try to stop the
grown of the system. The department of children Safety (DCS) is so backed up because we have
so many families that go into the system for so many reasons. We need to cut the numbers down
and start to educate our communities around us.
In Arizona alone there are 21, 841 calls made to the hotline within a six-month period.
Majority of the kids that get taken out of their homes are between the age of one and five years
old. The kids are usually younger in the system because when you are older you see a lot of them
cover for the person that is accused of the abuse because they are scared. Most of the children
take out of their homes are Hispanic (33.7%), Caucasian is (32.8), African American (22.9), and
the rest are of mixed race or different backgrounds. Also 38.5% of children leaving foster care
spend around twelve months in care of someone else. The average amount of placements a child
