(FISDAP - 17696) A 42 year old 37
male has circumferential burns
on both legs and his genitals.
What percentage of his body is
burned?
Tip: Both anterior legs - 18 Both 3 multiple choice options
posterior leg - 18 Genitals - 1
(FISDAP - 17700) How does a White, waxy and painless
full thickness burn present?
Tip: A full thickness burn involves
all layers of the skin and into the
subcutaneous layer. Nerve and
3 multiple choice options
hair follicles are affected.
(FISDAP - 17697) A 6 month old 45
male has full thickness burns to
his head, right arm, and back.
What percentage of his body is
burned?
3 multiple choice options
Tip: Head - 18 Back - 18 Arm - 9

,(FISDAP - 17692 - A 22 year old Rule of Palm
male has isolated and patchy
third degree burns. Which
classification method should
you use to determine the
percentage of body area
burned?
Tip: The rule of the palm can be 3 multiple choice options
helpful when there is not much
surface area burned or it has a
unique pattern of injury.
(FISDAP - 17699) How does a Pink or red with little or no swelling
superficial burn present?
Tip: Superficial or first degree
involves only the most
superficial layer of the skin.
Example would be a mild 3 multiple choice options
sunburn.
(FISDAP - 7083) What type of Crush injury 3 multiple choice options
injury results from prolonged
compression forces applied to
soft tissue?
Tip: Compressive or blunt
trauma can damage tissue from
extreme amounts of pressure.
This pressure causes organs to
rupture and bleed. Example
would be similar to crushing a
grape.
, (FISDAP - 15149) A 41 year old Cardiac tamponade 3 multiple choice options
male was kicked in the chest by
a horse. He is short of breath
and he has a contusion to his
sternum. Vital signs are BP
96/78, P 124, R 24 and shallow.
What should you suspect?
Tip: A cardiac tamponade is
where blood fills the pericardial
sac around the heart. The blood
does not allow for the heart to
fully expand and decrease
cardiac output. The narrowing of
the blood pressure is a
significant finding. Narrowing of
the blood pressure means
systolic pressure (96) and the
diastolic pressure (78) are
getting closer together. The
contusion on the sternum shows
that there was a significant
amount of blunt traumatic force
where the heart is located. A
coronary artery could have
ruptured causing the blood to
fill the pericardial sac.
(FISDAP - 17379) A 20 year old Tension pneumothorax 3 multiple choice options
male was the unrestrained driver
in a car crash. He is anxious,
pale and has absent lung
sounds on the left side. Vital
signs are BP 80/48, P 132, R 31
and shallow.
Tip: A tension pneumothorax is a
life-threatening injury. The
affected side is hyperinflated
and it is stopping blood from
returning to the heart. The
absent unilateral (one-sided)
lung sounds means the left lung
is not exchanging air because of
air being trapped. Each time the
patient inhales air it is trapped in
the left pleural space until the
point where it is unable to
expand any further.
Hypotension, absent radial
pulse, absent lung sounds,
tracheal deviation and jugular
vein distension (JVD) are signs of
a tension pneumothorax.
