The pituitary gland is a small, pea-sized gland located at the base of the brain, just below the hypothalamus. Often called the "master gland," it regulates many vital body functions by releasing hormones that control other glands in the endocrine system, such as the thyroid, adrenal glands, and reproductive organs. It has two main parts: the anterior and posterior lobes, each releasing different hormones like growth hormone, prolactin, and oxytocin. Despite its small size, the pituitary gland plays a crucial role in growth, metabolism, and reproduction.
