What is MS Excel?
MS Excel is an application software.
MS stands for Microsoft.
MS Excel is a part of Microsoft Office Suite. MS Word, MS Power Point, MS
Access are other applications in Microsoft Office.
MS Excel is the basic form of Database Management System.
MS Excel is an electronic spreadsheet.
Data and Information
Anything that is input to a computer is called data.
Computer processes the data and it is called information.
Information Technology
Information Technology is to access, manage, store and retrieve information
using computers. IT is the shortform of Information Technology.
File System and DBMS.
Data in a computers are stored / accessed in 2 different types: Fille System and
DBMS.
File System
File system is called flat system. All the data are stored sequentially. For
example, you name, mobile, blood group, address, pincode, dob are stored as a
text file.
DBMS
In a data base management system, data is organized in separate fields, called
columns. MS Excel is a basic form of DBMS.
For example, each data: your name, mobile, blood group, address, pincode, dob
are stored in separate columns in excel.
Other DBMS include MS Access, My SQL, MS SQL, Oracle etc.
Uses of MS Excel
MS Excel is a powerful tool. Some of the uses are as follows:
Creation of Database

Calculations for all purposes.
