Types of Communication
1. Verbal Communication
➢ Definition: The use of spoken or written words to convey a message.
➢ Types:
a) Oral Communication: Involves face-to-face conversations, phone calls,
presentations, and meetings.
b) Written Communication: Includes emails, reports, letters, and text messages.
➢ Characteristics:
• Clarity and tone are essential.
• Can be formal or informal.
• Immediate feedback is possible in oral communication.
2. Non-Verbal Communication
➢ Definition: Communication without words, using body language, gestures, facial
expressions, and other visual cues.
➢ Types:
a) Body Language: Posture, movements, and gestures.
b) Facial Expressions: Emotions conveyed through expressions.
c) Eye Contact: Indicates attention and engagement.
d) Proxemics: Use of personal space.
➢ Characteristics:
• Often conveys emotions and attitudes.
• Can complement or contradict verbal messages.
• Cultural differences can affect interpretation.
