PEER TUTORING:
DEFINITION:
According to Robert Thomas , it is a process by which a pupil , with training &
teacher’s guidance , helps one or more students at the same grade level and learn a
simple skill .
PEER TUTORING:
Peer tutoring is indeed a valuable educational practice where students assist their peers in
learning specific skills or concepts under the guidance of a teacher . In this approach , one
student acts as the tutor , taking on the role of a teacher , while another student becomes
the tutee , the learner . •This method is particularly effective because it encourages
collaboration and support among students of the same age group . By working closely with
their peers , students can receive tailored support and explanations that may resonate with
them better than traditional teaching methods .
TYPES OF PEER TUTORING:
Class Wind Peer Tutoring:
Class wide peer tutoring involves dividing the entire class into groups of two to five
students with differing ability level . Students then act as tutors , tutees . Students pairing
may be based on achievement levels . Students pairing may change weekly .
Cross Age Peer Tutoring:
Older students are paired with younger students to teach . The position of tutor and tutee
do not change . Tutors serve to model appropriate behavior , ask questions and encourage
better study habits . This arrangement is also beneficial for students with disabilities as
they may serve as tutors for younger students.
Same Age Peer Tutoring :
peer who are within one or two years of age are paired to review key concepts . Students
may have similar ability levels or a more advanced student can be paired with less
