dominating, there should be space for various ways of understanding the world. This

2. Differentiate between coloniality and colonialism. (10 marks)
Colonialism refers to the direct political and economic control exercised by one
nation over another. It involved physical occupation, administration, and
exploitation of African countries by European powers.
Coloniality, however, persists even after political independence. It is the ongoing
presence of colonial practices in culture, education, social systems, and
knowledge production. Coloniality means that colonial ideas and structures
continue to influence African societies long after the colonizers left, maintaining
inequalities and undermining African identity.

3. Do you think it was prudent and necessary to dissolve the OAU in favour of the

Yes, it was both prudent and necessary to dissolve the OAU and establish the AU.
The OAU was instrumental in fighting colonialism and apartheid, but after political
independence was largely achieved, African countries needed a new structure to
address modern challenges like economic development, political stability, and regional
integration.
The AU was created to promote democracy, good governance, and socio-economic
growth across Africa. It aims for a stronger political, economic, and social unity among
African nations, which is essential for confronting global challenges and reducing
dependency on foreign aid.
Therefore, transitioning to the AU represented a necessary evolution from fighting
external domination to building internal strength and resilience in Africa.
