Class 10 Science - Life Processes
Introduction
Life processes are the basic functions performed by living organisms to maintain their life. These
include nutrition, respiration, transportation, and excretion.
Nutrition
Nutrition is the process of obtaining and utilizing food. It is of two types: Autotrophic (plants) and
Heterotrophic (animals).
- Autotrophic: Uses sunlight to prepare food via photosynthesis.
- Heterotrophic: Depends on other organisms for food.
Respiration
Respiration is the process of breaking down food to release energy.
- Aerobic Respiration: Uses oxygen.
- Anaerobic Respiration: Does not use oxygen.
Equation: Glucose + Oxygen -> Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy
Transportation
Transportation is the movement of water, minerals, and nutrients in the body.
- In plants: Through xylem and phloem.
