SURGICAL ASEPSIS: Aseptic technique is a set of practices that prevents the introduction
of pathogens into patients during clinical procedures.
STERILE TECHNIQUE: Sterile technique is the use of practices that restrict microorganisms
in the environment and prevent contamination of the surgical field. Sterility will apply to
surfaces of some objects or to substances that will be introduced into a patient's body.

non-sterile item, it becomes non-sterile.
Sterile people: All people who touch sterile items must be sterile.
Non-sterile people: Non-sterile people should not reach across a sterile field.
Personal protective equipment (PPE): Use the correct selection and use of sterile and
non-sterile PPE.
Respiratory hygiene: Practice respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette.
Environmental cleaning: Clean and disinfect the environment.
Healthcare provider hygiene: Healthcare providers should maintain good personal
hygiene, be current with recommended immunizations, and not work when sick.
