I would like to express my gratitude to my research advisor, Dr. Richard Sause, for
giving me this opportunity to work on this research and being patient to help me to
accomplish it. With his guidance and assistance, I have increased my ability in the
structural engineering field. I also would like to thank Dr. James M. Ricles, who
provided me with his valued insight on experiments conducted at the Real-Time Multi-
Directional (RTMD) earthquake simulation facility, and Dr. Chang-Ho Lee, who
provided me with his knowledge on data modeling during the research.
I must extend many thanks to everyone at the ATLSS Center including Peter Bryan and
Tommy Marullo for their assistance on my research, especially Tommy Marullo, who
developed the Lehigh RTMD Metadata Web, software.
I sincerely appreciate the financial support from Lehigh University and the George E.
Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) sponsored by the
National Science Foundation (NSF).
Finally, I would like to thank my family, especially my parents and my wife, Chialin.
Without their love, patience, and support, I would not have been able to achieve this. I
also like to thank my friends who have provided me with their support and
encouragement during this process.
