Lesson 1: Scientific Processes
Lesson 2: Origin of the Universe Theories and related concepts
The Big Bang Theory
- Expansion of the universe from a certain point in time
- Started from a finite point in time
- Question to ponder: what happened before the big bang
- Big bang model is limited
- The universe is about 13.7 billion years old
Timeline of the Big Bang Theory
time event
10^-43 s Superfast inflation
- Cosmos go through a superfast inflation, expanding from the size of
an atom (from a singularity)
10^-32 s Electrons, quarks, elementary particles form
- Post-inflation, the universe is a seething, hot soup of electrons,
quarks, other particles
- A lot of energy
10^-6 s Quarks clump and form into protons and neutrons, rapid cooling
- A rapidly cooling cosmos permits quarks to clump into protons and
neutrons
