Basic Communication System – Block Diagram Overview
A communication system transfers information (message or data) from a sender to a receiver through a
channel. It includes several key blocks:
🔹 1. Information Source
Generates the original message (voice, text, video, data)
Example: human voice, computer data
🔹 2. Transmitter
Converts the message into a suitable signal for transmission
Performs:
o Modulation – Adds the message to a high-frequency carrier
o Amplification – Increases signal strength
🔹 3. Channel
The medium through which the signal travels (air, cables, optical fiber)
Affected by noise, attenuation, and interference
🔹 4. Noise
Unwanted random signal that mixes with the transmitted signal
Causes distortion or loss of data
🔹 5. Receiver
Receives the distorted signal from the channel
Performs:
o Demodulation – Extracts the original message from the carrier
