Introduction:
The Directive Principles of State Policy are guidelines or principles given to the federal and provincial
governments of Pakistan to frame policies and laws. These principles aim to promote social justice,
economic welfare, and political democracy. While they are not legally enforceable by courts, they serve
as important ideals for governance and development.
Constitutional Basis:
The Directive Principles are enshrined in Part II, Chapter 2, Articles 36 to 51 of the
Constitution of Pakistan, 1973.
They are inspired by similar principles in the Indian Constitution and aim to guide the
government in policy-making to create a just society.
Objectives of Directive Principles:
1. To promote social welfare and economic justice.
2. To establish equality of status and opportunity.
3. To improve the living standards of the people.
4. To ensure the protection of minorities and weaker sections.
5. To encourage participation of all citizens in the democratic process.
