The spacing technique can be used here. The spacing technique is when
teachers spread the information out over some time. It can be used over
time with varying problems and topics that will significantly impact the
child's learning and retention. This approach helps create a deeper
understanding of the topic they are learning and helps the students apply
the knowledge more flexibly. Children who can't grasp concepts right away
would benefit from reviewing the material over time and using the retrieval
method between lessons to determine what material they have grasped and
what information hasn’t sunk in quite yet. Having children learn smaller bits
of information over time rather than more significant amounts all at once will
significantly benefit their learning and understanding of the material. We will
use pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and whole dollars when
going through the lesson. The children will be given a bag of plastic coins
and need to organize them into different amounts and write down the five
piles they put together. We can move up to more significant amounts of
money, whether time or understanding. The instructional technique that is
used here is the HANDS-ON LEARNING ACTIVITIES approach. This technique
will positively impact students' learning because they use money daily. If
they can learn to count money, they can transfer the knowledge to other
things that need to be added together, and everything will fall into place.
The combination of the spacing and hands-on learning techniques is that
when you space out the information, there becomes this sense of Deja-vu,
and slowly, it becomes second nature, and with the hands-on aspect, it
creates muscle memory that makes everything fall into place.
