For each meal (before and after), list the ingredients that were likely in his meal. Then compare the macromolecules available in each meal. - Burger Meal : lettuce, bacon, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, and relish, ground beef - Turkey Sub Meal Ingredients : French bread, blue cheese salad dressing, mayonnaise, dijon mustard, smoked/ cooked turkey, cooked bacon, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce Macromolecules in burger meal: Carbs ( Bread), Protein ( Bacon, beef), Fats ( Cheese) Macromolecules in Sub meal: Carbs ( Bread), Protein ( turkey ), Fats ( blue cheese) ● Explain how these macromolecules break down in the body for energy. 1. J. Wellington Wimpy (from unit 2, learning activity 2)

● Compare 1 meal of Wimpy’s before his transformation (burger meal) to 1 meal of
his after his transformation (sub meal). For each meal (before and after), list the
ingredients that were likely in his meal. Then compare the macromolecules
available in each meal.

- Burger Meal : lettuce, bacon, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese, mustard,
mayonnaise, ketchup, and relish, ground beef
- Turkey Sub Meal Ingredients : French bread, blue cheese salad dressing,
mayonnaise, dijon mustard, smoked/ cooked turkey, cooked bacon, avocado,
tomatoes, lettuce

Macromolecules in burger meal: Carbs ( Bread), Protein ( Bacon, beef), Fats ( Cheese)

Macromolecules in Sub meal: Carbs ( Bread), Protein ( turkey ), Fats ( blue cheese)

● Explain how these macromolecules break down in the body for energy. Include
diagrams in your description. What are the major differences between the two
meals? Is the turkey sub a healthier meal when looking at the macromolecules
available?

Macromolecules are ingested and hydrolyzed to make smaller molecules that are then
absorbed by cells which are broken down even further to release energy.

The main difference between the two meals is more or less the ingredients but how they
are cooked and portioned. In a typical burger meal, there’s an abundance of everything.
The dressings overflow, the proteins are typically fried with lots of oil, and the meal in
general won’t maintain your hunger, causing you to eat more. On the other hand, a
healthy sub contains proteins that are cooked or baked instead of fried and incorporates
more veggies and fruits.

Yes, the turkey sub is a healthier meal when looking at the macromolecules.

● Provide some tips for Wimpy to make his meals even healthier.

Wimpy can make his meals even healthier by limiting the fats even in his subs. He could
incorporate more vegetables, fruit, grains, lean meats and low-fat dairy.
