, THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS
INTRODUCTION
The Pursuit of Happyness is an inspiring movie based on the true life story of
Chris Gardner, a desperate salesman and sole parent. The film is set in San
Francisco in the early 1980s, an era when Gardner is struggling to earn a living while
looking after his infant son. While job loss, homelessness, and persistent rejection
threaten to break him, he never loses hope. His determination and strength prove
how far a person can get if they will not give up regardless of how difficult life gets.
SUMMARY
Chris Gardner is a poor salesman who is attempting to sell bone density
scanners to physicians. The equipment is costly and hard to sell, and his efforts are
for naught despite his best efforts. His money problems create strain on his
marriage, ultimately resulting in his wife leaving him. Chris is then left to care for his
young son, Christopher, alone. He is facing eviction from his apartment because he
hasn't paid rent. With no other place to be, Chris and his son are homeless, staying
in shelters and even public restrooms. Resolute to make a change, Chris sends in an
application for a merit-based internship program at a stock brokerage house. The
internship is not paid, but it promises the potential of a full-time position at the end.
Chris toils during the internship period and also takes care of his son. He studies
diligently, works effectively, and never takes a day off even with his personal issues.
Chris encounters many challenges, such as hunger and humiliation. Yet he remains

, determined on his mission and keeps himself positive for the sake of his son. His
commitment and wit impress the managers of the firm. At the end of the internship,
he is hired. Overwhelmed with happiness, Chris finally lays eyes on hope for a
brighter future. His journey then becomes an inspiring testament to persistence, love,
and faith.
ANALYSIS
Chris Gardner demonstrates moral responsibility by insisting on staying with his
son even after he experiences total poverty and difficulty. Even after his wife's
departure and becoming homeless, he is dedicated to being a good father. He
forgoes his comfort in order to ensure that his son feels protected and loved. His life
reflects empathy and justice and how society never does much for people who are in
need. Chris and his son also battle with finding shelter, food, and stability, revealing
the harsh realities that many families have to go through. Despite the setbacks, Chris
never loses hope. He applies for a highly competitive internship program and works
hard for no pay. His virtue and determination are seen through his honesty,
discipline, and untiring effort. Chris's moral character and faith in a better future
propel him forward. Ultimately, his resolve and hard work pay off as he gets the job
and transforms his life.
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
Pursuit of Happyness I enjoy this film because it demonstrates how powerful
hope and determination can be even when everything around you is falling apart.
