Social Media: A Love-Hate Relationship
The social networks that I use are Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter.
The social networks that I use more often are Instagram and Snapchat; hence they are my
favorite. These social networks enable me to communicate easily with my family members and
friends who live far from me and those near me. This has been made livelier by the use of filters,
emojis, and videos. Other than that, they help me build new relationships; for instance, Instagram
has helped me connect with my mentors and roles models. Instagram has also helped in
increasing my visibility through managing my account. The channel has also helped me educate
myself; this has been made possible by following favourite people and pages that offer
educational content (Goldsmith, 2012). I spend many hours in the day on both my favorite social
networks. I hardly go for an hour without using the two networks. Sometimes I find myself
navigating the networks in about twenty minutes. I even spend some hours using the apps before
sleeping. I use the apps more in the daytime than at night. For me, social media is a love and hate

After I tracked my app usage, I found that on the two days of the weekend, i.e., Saturday
and Sunday I found that I had picked up my phone 340 times in the two days. I had spent 3 hours
and 56 minutes on Instagram and 2 hours and 30 minutes on Snapchat in the two days. From the
data, most time was spent on Instagram.
After doing my tracking, I am astonished by how much of my time is consumed by social
media usage. A total of 6 hours and 26 minutes were consumed in 24 hours. This means that I
