The relevance of the Ecosystemic approach
, Interview scenario
You are a psychologist at Sunstar consulting services which was approached by the
Timeair hotel group. Timeair is a relevantly new hotel group but are making strides in
the business sector. This is a 5-star hotel group and just last year they have won the
“best hotel group” award for 2019. The general manager from the hotel in Cape Town
has approached your company for assistance in finding the right candidate suitable for
the Front office manager’s position. The manager should just not have the appropriate
credentials for the position but must also demonstrate positive attributes.
These attributes should include:
Honesty
Vision
Commitment
Excellent communicator
Problem solver
To motivate and guide hotel staff and resolve conflict, leadership, and managerial
abilities are a must.
Must also be focused on the following:
Sales and marketing
Accounting
Computer systems
Administration
Qualification should include:
Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or Hotel management.
2-3 Years’ experience in a similar position will be an advantage.
The hotel manager should start immediately, should the right candidate not be found
immediately, waiting for the right candidate would also suffice. The previous hotel
manager fell ill and has decided to resign with immediate effect. The hotel has been
running without a manager for the past 3 months, and it is vital that the right candidate
must be found. During these past months, with no leadership, staff displayed serious
conflict amongst each other. There is a major concern due to these conflicts, as there
has been a spike in absenteeism, therefor also resulted in a number of staff showing
signs of burnout due to longer working hours. Due to the burnout, this resulted in staff
being frustrated and agitated and it started showing its ugly head, as guest were starting
to complain about staff being unhelpful and incompetent. This is of grave concern, as
Timeair is a 5-star hotel and guests expect nothing but the best from leisure to service,
and our motto is “best service ever”. Guest can be very demanding and overbearing at
times, and therefore the staff needs a manager that can bring the service levels up to
par again, as well as to motivate staff and create a happy working environment.
