Essay on using authentic materials and internet
Write a 500-700 word essay in which you:
a) Explain the value of using authentic materials in foreign language teaching (See Units 5 and 9 and do your
own research).
b) Say why you feel the text you have chosen would be appropriate for this class and explain the reasons for
your vocabulary selection. If you have adapted your text, explain the rationale for the changes you made in
this section.
c) Say why you feel the activities you have chosen would be appropriate for this class.
d) Comment on the advantages and disadvantages of using the internet for teaching and language resources.

a) The value of using authentic materials in foreign language teaching
Authentic materials in foreign language teaching provides that it allows high level students to see
the everyday language that is used in English countries. Authentic materials will also help students
to communicate in the language they are learning fluently and they will improve their vocabulary
because they will be focusing on some specific topics. It also provides students get closer to reality
so they will feel more comfortable if they have to talk about it someday.
b) Reasons for the selection of this text and the 12 vocabulary items
Technology articles are usually really interesting for everyone because It’s something new and we
find them pretty exciting to read. It will be interesting for them no matter where you are or where
you come from. I chose this article since I want to get my students be updated with the upcoming
technologies and the future, besides they are already really interested in future events. Elon Musk is
one of the most successful person in the world nowadays and students will enjoy and learn a lot if
they read and understand his projects.
The reason why I chose these vocabulary is that they should provide a good challenge for the
students and they will use it in their daily life.
c) Why my activities would be appropriate for this class
The dictionary quiz allows the students to get closer with the definitions and it will be a good
challenge for them to find their definitions and they will understand the meanings of the words
much better.
I chose the ‘’Guess the space movie’’ because I think that it’s really interesting the topic for the
students and they will be more involved since they really like watching movies. Thanks to this, they
will get more familiarized with the topic.
Finally, the crossword game is appropriate for this class and they will enjoy this activity because it
represents a challenge for them. They will also practice their skim / scan abilities.
