Assignment C, Part 1 - An Evaluation of Cutting Edge Advanced
Use the checklist from unit 10 ('Evaluating course book material') to write a general
evaluation of the book - you won't be able to comment on all items as you only have one
unit and the contents, but say as much as you can.
This must be presented as a coherent essay, not just a list.
Then say whether you personally would like to use the book with an advanced class and
why or why not - this is just your opinion, so there is not a right or a wrong response to
this part. You do not need to refer to the class described for part 2 of this assignment.
300 - 500 words
This course book material is clearly structured, warmer, body and plenary will make
students work independently on. The structure and order of this unit is logical and gets
progressively more difficult. The four skills are clearly covered in this book and follows a
logical structure in building up from the previous parts to the next. This unit also makes a
good use of practice, recycling and revision. There are some correction activities to check
the student’s understanding of global living. The teacher’s guide is not mentioned in this
unit.
In this unit we can find individual work and paired work and exercise for students to work
freely on. The materials are laid out and there is a good variety such as pictures, articles,
etc. There is a good balance between all four skills. From listening and reading to writing
reports, it will be a good challenge for advanced level students. Topics of the different
listening and reading texts should be familiar for the students.
This unit gives a good amount of practice activities, but it doesn’t make any test for the
students. As far as I know, this kind of books are usually a little bit expensive and maybe
that would make them not affordable for all the students. In this unit there is no use of
grammar reference pages or vocabulary lists.
In a nutshell, this unit has almost everything of the checklist so I might want to utilize this
book and maybe I would add some speaking and pronunciation exercises.
