ANS. MATTERS ARE THE SUBSTANCES THAT OCCUPY SPACE
AND HAVE SOME MASS.
Q. MATTERS ARE MADE UP OF WHAT ?
ANS. MATTERS ARE MADE UP OF PARTICLES. THESE
PARTICLES ARE VERY SMALL BEYOND OUR IMAGINATION.
➢ PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF MATTERS :-
• MATTERS ARE MADE UP OF MANY VERY SMALL
PARTICLES.
ACTIVITY :- 1. TAKE 2-3 CRYSTALS OF POTASSIUM
PERMANGANTE.
2. ADD AND MIX THEM IN 100ML OF WATER.
3. GET 10ML WATER FROM THAT EARLIER TUMBLER AND
MIX IT INTO THE ANOTHER 90ML CLEAR WATER.
4. NOW AGAIN TAKE 10ML WATER FROM SECOND TUMBLER
AND MIX IT INTO ANOTHER TUMBLER WITH 90ML CLEAR
WATER.
5. PERFORM THIS ACTIVITY SEVERAL TIMES WITH SAME
PROCESS.
, CONCLUSION :- WE WILL FIND THAT 2-3 CRYSTALS OF POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE
CAN COLOUR THE LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER ABOUT 1000L
BY DOING SO WE CONCLUDE THAT CRYSTALS ARE MADE UP OF MANY SMALLER
PARTICLES.
• PARTICLES OF MATTERS HAVE SPACE BETWEEN THEM.
ACTIVITY:- 1. TAKE A BEAKER HALF FILL OF WATER.
2. NOW PUT SOME SALT/SUGAR INTO IT.
3. START DISSOLVING THE SALT/SUGAR IN THE WATER.
RESULT :- AFTER DISSOLVING THE SUGAR/SALT INTO WATER
YOU WILL FIND THAT SUGAR/SALT GOT DISAPPEAR.
Q. WHERE DOES THE SUGAR/SALTT HAD GONE?
ANS. THE REASON IS THAT THE SUGAR/SALT GOT SPACED
BETWEEN THE SPACE OF PARTICLES OF WATER.
CONCLUSION :- BY PERFORMING THE ABOVE ACTIVITY WE CAME
TO KNOW THAT PARTICLES OF MATTER HAVE SPACE BETWEEN
THEM.

ATTRACTION ON EACH OTHER.
ACTIVITY:- 1. TAKE SOME SOLIDS LIKE IRON NAIL , A BOX,
RUBBER BAND ETC.
2. NOW TRY TO BREAK THEM WITH HAMMERING OR
STRETCHING.
