What does CARE stand for? - -Confidence, Attentive, Responsive, Empathetic
When would you give a 10-year-old CPR? - -When there is no pulse, no breathing,
nothing at all.
What is the first step to back boarding? - -Primary guard approaches with Guest & the
other guard places the backboard in the pool.
When would you give a secondary check? - -when there is no life-threatening signs in
the primary check.
What is the order of a drowning? - -Surprise, involuntary breath holding,
unconsciousness, hypoxic convulsions, cardiac arrest, death....(remember the order
goes: unconsciousness THEN hypoxic convulsions.)
When would a tourniquet be used? - -When there is a CATASTROPHIC injury and
bleeding can't be stopped with gauze.
What are the signs someone may have an airway obstruction and needs immediate
help? - -when they can't speak/do ANYTHING. (and when they are doing the universal
sign of choking: holding their throat with 2 hands)
How much oxygen should be flowing per minute? - -15 lpm (liters per minute)
When an infant is choking what should you do? .... - -(on knee) give 5 back blows/slaps
IN BETWEEN THE SHOULDER BLADES & 5 chest thrusts/compressions
What does the 10 mean in the 10/20 protection standard? - -you have 10 seconds to
scan ENTIRE zone, NOT just the SURFACE .
What is one of the general care rules when taking care/rescuing a Guest? - -
Communicate/comfort/talk to them throughout the process.
When delivering compressions on an infant what is the placement of your hands? - -
2 fingers/ just below the nipple line.
