Purpose
Evaluation of clinical competence is essential to ensure quality and safety in
advanced practice nursing education. The purpose of the physical examination
video evaluation is to assess knowledge and understanding of a complete head-to-
toe examination for entry-level clinical competency. This assignment supports the
professional formation of the nurse practitioner.
Course Outcomes
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:
• CO 2: Differentiate normal and abnormal health history and physical
examination findings.
• CO 5: Conduct focused and comprehensive health histories and
examinations for various patient populations.
Due Date
This assignment is due by Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. MT of Week 7.
Students are expected to submit assignments by the time they are due.
Assignments submitted after the due date and time will receive a deduction of 5%
of the total points possible for that assignment for each day the assignment is late.
Assignments will be accepted, with penalty as described, up to a maximum of three
days late, after which point a zero will be recorded for the assignment.
Total Points Possible
This assignment is graded on a pass/fail basis. Points are not included in the
course grade.
Important Note
You must pass the physical examination video to pass NR509. The grading rubric
consists of 125 points. To pass NR509, you must score at least 105 points (84%).
Any score below 105 is considered non-passing and requires you to retake NR509.
