, Fascial Compartments of the Leg
•Three compartments :
•Anterior,
•Lateral, Superficial
•Posterior Deep
,• Anterior – Contains the muscles responsible for
dorsiflexion and inversion of the foot (tibialis anterior,
extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis
longus ,proneus terius ). The anterior tibial artery and
vein and deep peroneal nerve.
• Lateral – Contains the fibularis or proneus longus and
Brevis responsible for plantar flexion eversion of the
foot. These structures are supplied by the superficial
peroneal nerve and peroneal artery
• Deep Posterior– tibialis posterior, with posterior tibial
artery, vein and nerve
• Superficial Posterior – Contains the "calf muscles"
(gastrocnemius and soleus, plantaris ), which plantar
flexion the foot.

, Contents of the Anterior Fascial
Compartment of the Leg
• Muscles: The tibialis
anterior, extensor
digitorum longus,
peroneus tertius, and
extensor hallucis longus
• Blood supply: Anterior
tibial artery
• Nerve supply: Deep
peroneal nerve
• All these muscle
common action as
dorsiflexion of foot.
