PYSC 101 MODULE 10 EXAM

True or false? Social psychology studies show that the extreme levels of obedience
shown in the Milgram studies are unlikely to occur today. FALSE

True or false? The man in the lab coat in the Milgram studies yelled at participants and
bullied them into obedience. FALSE

What were participants in the Milgram study supposed to do when the “learner” made a
mistake? The participants as the "teacher" were supposed to deliver an electric shock
and increase the intesity which each mistake, although it was fake the participants were
led on that it was real

How would you summarize the central take-away point from the Asch studies?
The Asch studies showed the power of conformity and how even though there may be a
clear answer that is very obvious and true, individuals can be pressured to conform to a
group and what their consensus is even if it is wrong (and they know it is wrong) It
showed how much influence there is from group and social pressures and the
judgements that come along with it

group.

True or false? Increasing the group’s apparent competency (such as by having group
members dress professionally) increases group conformity in the Asch studies.
TRUE

What was your reaction to watching the module video on bystander effect? Also, what

Finally, have you ever observed bystander effect? Describe what you observed or
describe the extent that you think bystander effect happens in everyday life.
I was shocked but at the same time not as shocked as I should be when watching the
bystander effect video. I was shocked because the male as on the ground, in a very odd
spot and busy spot and so many people were around and they did not care to go up to
him and ask if he was ok or needed medical attention. I was more shocked that people
