The New
Right Chubb and Moe (1990) - study with findings
They found that pupils from low-income families consistently do
better in private schools in comparison to state schools.
Based on their findings, Chubb and Moe propose a
new market system:
- Families would be given a voucher to
spend on a parent’s school of their own
choice
- This would in turn promote marketisation
and competition as schools would have to
increase their educational standards.
- This is the same as the New Right
attempting to achieve marketisation but in
a more approachable way to lower class
families, unlike the New Right.
