Prokaryotic Transcription: Mechanism, Regulation, and Termination
Initiation: Describes how RNA polymerase binds with the sigma factor to form the holoenzyme, how it recognizes promoter regions like the -35 and -10 boxes, and how it begins RNA synthesis. Elongation: Explains how the RNA polymerase moves along the DNA template strand, synthesizing RNA in the 5' to 3' direction, and maintaining a transcription bubble with a short RNA–DNA hybrid. Termination: Covers both Rho-independent (intrinsic) and Rho-dependent termination mechanisms, including their sequence requirements, how they trigger detachment of the RNA transcript, and release of RNA polymerase.
