1. Narrative Writing – Crafting a Compelling Story
✅ What Is Narrative Writing?
Narrative writing tells a story with a clear sequence of events. It often explores a
theme (e.g. friendship, courage, identity) and uses descriptive techniques to
immerse the reader.
📚 Structure of a Strong Narrative
Use the five-part story arc to keep your writing clear and engaging:
1. Orientation – Set the scene:
o Introduce your main character(s), setting (where/when), and tone.
o Example: "It was the last day of summer, and the cicadas buzzed
louder than usual."
2. Rising Action – Build tension:
o Introduce a problem or conflict.
o Develop relationships between characters.
o Include obstacles and choices the character must face.
3. Climax – The turning point:
o The most intense moment (a big decision, revelation, or action).
o Example: "He turned the handle, knowing what lay behind the door
could change everything."
4. Falling Action – Events start resolving:
o Show the consequences of the climax.
o Begin to bring the story to a close.
5. Resolution – The ending:
o Give closure, but not necessarily a “happy” ending.
o Optionally, add a twist or reflection.
