Introduction to Leadership
Leadership means guiding and influencing people to achieve a goal. A leader motivates, supports,
and helps the team to perform better.
1 Trait Theory of Leadership
This theory says that leaders are born, not made.
Some people have special qualities (traits) that make them good leaders.
Key traits of leaders:
- Confidence
- Honesty
- Intelligence
- Decision-making skills
- Energy and enthusiasm
Example: Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln they had qualities that made them great leaders.
Criticism:
- Not all leaders have all these traits.
- Situations also matter, not just traits.
2 Behavioral Theory of Leadership
This theory focuses on what leaders do, not what they are like.
Two main types of behavior:
Task-oriented leader focuses on work, deadlines, and results.
People-oriented leader cares about teams feelings, builds relationships.
