A virtual server, also known as a virtual machine (VM), is a software-based, isolated environment running on a physical server. It emulates the functionality of a physical server, allowing multiple operating systems and applications to run independently on the same hardware. This approach, called server virtualization, enhances resource utilization, reduces costs, and improves flexibility compared to using only physical servers. This video explains the concept of server virtualization and how it creates virtual machines: 1m Digital Cloud Training YouTube · 1 Oct 2024 Key aspects of virtual servers: Resource Sharing: Virtual servers share the underlying hardware (CPU, memory, storage, network) of the physical server. Isolation: Each virtual server operates independently, with its own operating system, applications, and configurations, preventing interference between them. Hypervisor: A hypervisor (also called a virtual machine monitor) is the software that manages and allocates resources to the virtual servers. Cost Efficiency: By consolidating multiple virtual servers on a single physical server, organizations can reduce hardware costs, energy consumption, and maintenance expenses. Flexibility and Scalability: Virtual servers can be easily created, modified, and moved between physical servers, offering greater flexibility and scalability to adapt to changing needs. Types: There are different types of virtual servers, including virtual private servers (VPS) which offer more control and resources compared to shared hosting, and cloud servers, which are accessed over the internet. Use Cases: Virtual servers are used for various purposes, such as hosting websites, running applications, testing software, and providing development and testing environments. This video explains the advantages of using virtual servers, particularly in terms of cost savings and flexibility: 36s Sabre Limited YouTube · 14 Jun 2023 What Is a Virtual Server? | Google Cloud Google Cloud What Is a Virtual Server? | IBM 1 Nov 2023 — A virtual server is a type of software-enabled server that can be created by partitioning a physical serve.
