A community is a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share
government, and often have common cultural and historical heritage.
When we speak of communities is referred to:
Localities we live in (local communities)
Regional and national areas
The whole of Europe (EU) and beyond (globally)
Local Communities
A group of individuals that interact within their immediate surroundings. A typical local
community consists of business operators, public agency staff and residents, and their
interactions can include the sharing of resources, information and assistance, as well as the
establishment of commercial relationships between local businesses and consumers.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
The environment is not just having an effect in one community but is traveling on and having
a second hand effect on neighbouring communities - much like the 'second hand smoking
effect' only this is second hand pollution. Due to the business acting unethically and
producing masses amounts of pollution that is affecting the rise of global warming aiding it to
go faster.
Forests
Forests play a critical role in the global ecosystem. As part of Tesco’s Little Helps Plan, and
through their membership of the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), Tesco is committed to
achieving zero-net deforestation by 2020, in the sourcing of palm oil, soy, wood/paper and
Brazilian beef for our Own Brand products. To achieve this zero-net deforestation
commitment, effective collaboration between industry, governments and civil society is
needed within a framework of good governance and sustainable laation Value Areas (HCVs)

Climate
Tesco recognises that climate change as the biggest environmental threat the world faces,
and one which could pose particular challenges to a number of our supply chains.
As a business, Tesco impacts the climate in both their own operations and supply chain.
This includes greenhouse gas emissions from electricity, refrigeration, agriculture and
transport. To resolve the issue, Tesco is committed to:
35% absolute carbon reduction from our operations by 2020 (60% reduction by 2025,
and 100% by 2050)
Tesco suppliers to achieve a 7% absolute reduction in carbon emissions across their
business by 2020 (covering both agriculture and manufacturing emissions)
