Past simple tenses in English grammar

Past Simple (1)...... V. To (be)
Past Simple tense expresses actions that happened and finished in the past.
We will begin by studying the past simple of the verb (to be).

Its form changes according to the subject.

[Note]: The past simple form of verb (to be) is: (Was / Were)

Examples:
-​ I was at home yesterday.
-​ My parents were in London last month.
-​ Ahmed was in the library last Friday.
Negative: We form the negative by adding (not)
[ Was not or wasn’t ]​ [ Were not or weren’t]

, Questions: We add (was / were) in the beginning of the sentence to form
a question.
-​ Was he in the club last Friday?
Yes, he was.
No, he wasn’t.
-​ Were you playing yesterday?
Yes, I was.
No, I wasn’t.
-​ Were they at school yesterday?
Yes, they were.
No, they weren’t.
