class 9th biology chapter 1 the fundamental unit of life notes
"The chapter 'The Fundamental Unit of Life' explains that all living organisms are made up of cells. It starts with the discovery of the cell by Robert Hooke and the development of cell theory, which tells us that all living beings are made of cells and that new cells come from existing cells. Cells come in different shapes and sizes, and they perform all the basic functions of life. The chapter covers the structure of a cell, including important parts like the plasma membrane, which controls entry and exit of substances; the nucleus, which is the brain of the cell; and the cytoplasm, which holds all the cell organelles. I also learned about different organelles like mitochondria (which produce energy), endoplasmic reticulum (which helps in protein and fat production), Golgi apparatus (which packages materials), lysosomes (which break down waste), and vacuoles (which store food and water). In plant cells, there are also cell walls and chloroplasts which help in photosynthesis. The chapter ends by comparing plant and animal cells and also prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. In short, the cell is the smallest unit of life, but it plays the biggest role in all living organisms."
