Paranoid Personality Disorder (PPD) Description of the Disorder Individuals with PDD experiences strong patterns of suspicion and distrust of others without reason. They tend to remain alert for fear of harm and demean because they feel threatened. Although they face many challenges, they do not realize that their thinking and behaviors are problematic. The distrust, blame, and unfounded beliefs hinder their ability to engage in workable relationships (Cheli et al., 2021). Affected people are likely to hold grudges, be unforgiving, and feel deceived, exploited, and attacked. They are likely to be argumentative and face problems relaxing. According to the Paranoid Personality Disorder DSM-5 301.0 (F60.0), the condition has two primary diagnostic criteria. In criterion A, the affected person shows a pervasive suspiciousness and distrust resulting in malevolent interpretation manifested in at least four ways (Armiya'u et al., 2021). Some of these indicators are suspicion without sufficient reason, reluctance to confide, recurrent suspicion, receiving character attacks, feeling threatened or demeaned, and persistent grudges. Therapeutic Approach and a Modality Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an effective therapeutic approach for treating paranoid personality disorder. Therapists examine how the client thinks and identifies the evidence of beliefs. The approach can facilitate the reduction of anxiety and worry. Breaking down problems into small units helps the client address them better and more positively. CBT helps change negative feelings and helps the clients to focus on the positive aspects of life. It encourages the clients to focus on the current issues and ignore what happened in the past. CBT is an effective method for managing PDD since it enhances the state of mind and helps eliminate challenging symptoms such as fear and anxiety (Furchtlehner et al., 2020). The therapist evaluates issues affecting the client and considers how they are unhelpful or unrealistic. Therefore, therapists would enhance the ability of the client to apply learned skills in developing appropriate behaviors and thoughts. CBT is the most appropriate treatment method for PDD because it can enable the lOMoAR cPSD| 3 client to gain better awareness of negative or inaccurate thinking. The intervention improves the ability of the client to respond more effectively and focus on improving the quality of life. Therapeutic Relationship in Psychiatry Therapeutic Relationship in Psychiatry refers to the relationship between therapist and client. The relationship improves the ability of the therapist to interact with the client to influence beneficial changes. It promotes the success of the counseling and therapy process since it enhances the willingness of the client to provide beneficial information to support the treatment process (Cheli et al., 2021). The interactions enable therapists to understand possible causes of problems affecting the clients and play a role in developing desirable changes. Moreover, the relationship can enhance self-awareness and the development of positive behaviors. Sharing Diagnosis of PDD with the Client It is recommendable to interview the client and ask questions to determine the best way to disclose the diagnosis. The interview would determine areas where the client needs assistance and predict the client's reaction to the diagnosis (Armiya'u et al., 2021). Understanding the client's thoughts is also important in establishing the most effective approach method to communicate with the client. Individual, Family, and Group Session Sharing the diagnosis with an individual would involve supporting the client's development of positive thinking and behaviors. Family groups would involve strengthening or improving existing ties to ensure that the clients receive better assistance from members (Cheli et al., 2021). Group therapy would encourage members who share the same problem to support each other. The three approaches focus on enhancing mutual support and healthy communication. Their objective is to ensure that the client is supported in gaining more awareness of the negative thoughts and behaviors, and focus on making positive changes
