Recap on cell division
Mitosis
• In mitosis parent cells divides into two identical cells.
• Mitosis occurs in four stages:
• Prophase
• metaphase
• anaphase
• telophase
Meiosis
• In meiosis the parent cell which is diploid divides into
two haploid daughter cells.
• No of chromosome are divided into half in meiosis-I
• Again the divided haploid daughter cells will re-divide
the other haploid daughter cells, process known as
meiosis - II
, SPERMATOGENESIS
Major points to be remembered.
• location of spermatogenesis is seminiferous tubules.
• duration of spermatogenesis to be completed is 72-74
days
Spermatogonium
Mitosis (5-7 cycle)
Primary
spermatocytes ( 2n )
There is independent
assortment of maternal Meiosis- I
and paternal chromosomes
secondary
spermatocytes (n)
Meiosis- II
spermatid
Here the spermatid are still in the cellular form
(with all chromosomes, nucleus.....) which
undergoes the morphological Spermiogenesis
Process called spermiogenesis to form actual
spermatozoa with the head, neck & tail.
Spermatozoa
Release of spermatozoa from
Spermation sertohly cell into lumen of
seminiferous tubules.
