Tissue cultures
Laboratory studies- CBC (infection), albumin (protein levels, nutritional
levels, hair growth, subtleness of skin), blood cultures (infection of
wounds/lesions)
Doppler (for blood flow, any deficiencies?)
Biopsy-key diagnostic (esp. for cancers, shave (skin), punch, and excisional)
Nursing responsibilities (collecting, cultures/labs, patient prep, teaching,
photographs)
Imaging Studies
Give this one a try later!
Intravenous urography, retrograde pyelogram, CT scan, MRI, cystography
and urethrography, arteriography all use contrast dye
Urine tests
Give this one a try later!
C&S FIRST: causation of infection (CBC)
Bedside urine dipstick: drug, pregnancy, pH
Urinalysis: protein, sugar, blood
, Fluid Volume Imbalance
Give this one a try later!
Measurements of fluid volume balance
-VS: BP/HR
-Urine Output
-Body weight
-Physical assess.: skin turgor, mucous membrane, cap. refill time, edema
Health History

Comorbid Conditions
-Diabetes (decreased pain, foot ulcers)
-Heart disease/coronary artery disease (acute=pale pink, blue, purple) (nail
beds-cyanosis (hypoperfusion))
-Peripheral vascular disease- arterial insufficiency, skin will be dry, shiny,
pale to blue, alopecia (venous insufficiency- pale pink, edema, dermatitis,
wounds appear wet)
