Are some types of knowledge more useful than others?

he first time I saw and started using the rubix cube was back in 2020 during Covid times, when we had a
T
lot of spare time due to the restrictions of outdoor activities including going physically to school. This was
an idea my father introduced for us siblings and at first we were not sure on how it can help us. To use the
time more efficiently and to reduce the stress during that difficult time I started to learn how to make
rubix cubes.
olving the rubix cube helps with boosting your cognitive power, improving your memory and also helps
S
in sharpening your problem solving skills. As I incorporate formulas like ZZ and CFOP when solving the
rubix cube, I train my brain for future circumstances in other situations. For me, while I was learning on
how to solve the rubix cube I was able to learn about time management, working under pressure and most
importantly on how to concentrate on a task in hand until it is solved successfully. Solving a rubix cube
helped me with not only understanding more about procedural knowledge but also helped me with an
embedded knowledge linked to mathematics for example concept of surface area, volume and a three
dimensional figure.
I found both these types of knowledge very useful for my personal development whilst the procedural
knowledge helped me with following a structural approach with ease and without any pressure. The
embedded knowledge helped me to always look at things more deeply to understand what embedded
information is hidden which can help to complement the learning process. I went back and shared these
insights with my father who had introduced the rubix cube to us and shared my learnings with him. He
was very happy that I was able to really use rubix cube to have fun but also increase my knowledge about a
few important concepts that will help me in my professional life going forward.
