I stared in horror. On my breadboard more than 25 chips stared back. The maze of wires
looked like a labyrinth ready to entrap any misfortune electrical component that crossed its
path. A single error in the complex breadboard would inevitably cause me to have to pull apart
my breadboard and restart as it would otherwise be impossible to figure out the issue. This
experience led me to wonder about a different way, one that was simpler and more
straightforward. This wondering caused questions that led to research that eventually paved the
way to understanding. Throughout the process I learned more about the field of Electrical
Engineering as I realized that there were various unique ways to solve complex problems.
Electrical Engineering offers a way of thinking in which one can creatively come up with brilliant
solutions which have the power to unlock further innovation.

first-choice major will help you achieve them.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use

will open up a wealth of opportunities for me. After graduating from the Grainger College of
Engineering, I plan to pursue an MBA at the Gies School of Business. This combination will equip
me with the technical expertise and business background necessary to succeed in both of these
fields.
I plan on working in an administrative role at a reputable engineering company, after my
MBA, before starting my own engineering firm. I believe that the foundational knowledge
gained from UIUC will be the building blocks to achieving my dreams. An Electrical Engineering
degree from UIUC is an essential first step toward my aspirations, paving the way towards a
transformative career that combines engineering and entrepreneurship.
3. Please explain your interest in you second-choice major or your overall academic or career
goals.
The question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” has been asked to every
elementary school student. When the question is asked to me, the answer is always simple: “I want to
be the boss”. Though this response often generates a laugh and loving smile from any teacher that
asked it, it was my dream. Being in charge of and ensuring that daily operations are run smoothly have
always been something that I wanted to do. An undergraduate degree in Systems Engineering and
Design from UIUC would allow me to do so. This field is interesting as it is different from most other
