BTEC sport [P1]: describe four legislative factors that
influence health and safety in sport
Health and safety are the different regulations that have been set that
are aimed at the prevention of any accidents and injuries occurring. In
this case during any sport related situations which have a higher risk of
accident and injury than a normal scenario.
A legislative factor is related to the making or enforcing of laws. This can
be through various bodies that are in charge.
The following are the different legislations in sports:
o Health and safety at work act [1974]
o Reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations [1995]
o Personal protective equipment [2002]
o Health and safety (first aid) regulations [1981]
o Fire safety and safety of places of sports act [1987]
o Adventurous activities licensing authority regulations
Health and safety at work act [1974]:
- This is the main legislation that covers health and safety in the UK.
- It sets several common duties which:
o Employees/self-employed individuals have to themselves/ each
other
o Employers set their employees and members of the public
- It sets wide ranging duties on employers so as to keep their employees
safe. In this case a manager/owner of the club and his or her players.
- The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) is a gorvenmental appointed
body that is the one responsible for the health and safety legislation in
the UK.
