the first of seven books that belong to this series. Seven
Sisters is very romantic and tells two stories: one in the
present, and one from many years ago.
Summary
Maia D’Appliese and her five younger sisters are sent home
when their beloved father has passed away. Pa Salt, so he is
called because of his love for the sea and sailing, is a kind
and mysterious billionaire who let his daughters grow up on a
Swiss fairytale estate at the Lake of Geneva- Atlantis- where they’ve all enjoyed a
wonderful youth. He named his daughters after the Seven Sisters stars. Maia and
her sisters are each adopted from all over the world and each have a different
background. Pa Salt had said once he’d never found the seventh sister.
With his death, the sisters each get a clue handed to them to see where their
heritage is. Maia appears to come from Rio de Janeiro, and she sets off to find her
history. In Rio, she meets up with a Brazilian author, who also happens to be a
historian. Together they dive into history to find out more about Maia’s family and
background. Through a series of love letters from her great-grandmother Izabela
Bonifacio to her lover, Maia starts to unravel her past. Set partially in Rio and
partially in Paris during the 1920’s and 30’s, the story centers around the building of
Christ the Redeemer- the statue on the mountainside above Rio de Janeiro.

Maia D’Appliese is the oldest of a family of six and is the only one who hasn’t yet
flown the nest. She’s a writer and loves staying at the magical Atlantis, which she
calls home, with her father. Throughout the story she gets called beautiful a lot, and
she is a really good writer. Apparently, Maia and Izabela look exactly alike.
Izabela ‘Bel’ Bonifacio is Maia’s great-grandmother, but in the story which is set in
the 1920’s, she’s just a gorgeous passionate 18-year-old, wandering about her
future. Her parents, Italian immigrants, have grown rich out of the coffee farms in Rio
and he ambitions for his daughter to marry Gustavo Aires Cabral, whose family
fortunes are rapidly shrinking. Gustavo lets her sail off with her friends and family to
Europe. Heitor da Silva Costa, the father of Bel’s friend, is working on the project of
Christ the Redeemer, that’s why they are going to Paris. Once in Paris, Bel explores
her passion for art and she meets a french boy: Laurent Brouilly. Laurent is the
assistant of the monsieur who’s helping construct the Christ statue. They fall in love,
