Why does Brutus have a problem with the newly created federal branches?
It gives one group of people too much power to make government decisions at their own
will. The legislative branch helps makes laws and the judicial branch interprets and
enforces them so absolute power over the law is out of reach of the states
Why is Article 1, Section 8 of the constitution a problem for the states?
The states are not allowed to void laws made by Congress. The government is a real
government of one nation, not a confederacy of separate states. The power of the states
may soon be completely stripped and the leaders may become tyrants.
What does Baron de Montesquieu say about politics? How does it relate to the US?
That republics only work over a small area with a few people. America was already a
bigger country and with the question of extending west we would only get bigger. There
would be too many people for there to ever be a consensus on what the interest of the
public even is.
Which specific examples of republics were used to explain the above statement?
Greece and Rome
How would the federal government eventually have to enforce laws?
Establishing and armed force to execute laws with weapons
Explain: Why could the new government not work?
In a country so big no one would know their representatives, the government
could easily abuse its power, and it would have to stop being a true republic to
get anyone to follow the laws (which would be made without the state's consent).
The new government would make one aristocracy over a whole country, not a
group of states working together.
